The first sentence showed up in my inbox preview and got me curious enough to open it and read it.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s analyze:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><em><b>&#8216;Subject line:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> {Their company name} &lt;&gt;Woodpecker&#8217;<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yup&#8230; you&#8217;ve probably seen a version of this subject line before, haven&#8217;t you? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opinions on popular subject lines, like the one used in this cold email example, are divided<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If prospects see them regularly, they might be less likely to open the email. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the truth is \u2013 it all comes down to who you\u2019re writing to. We\u2019ve seen it work well for some, for others &#8211; not so much. So it&#8217;s definitely worth running an <a href=\"https:\/\/woodpecker.co\/blog\/ab-testing-in-cold-email\/\">A\/B test<\/a> to see if it works for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;Congratulations on your new position as Head of Product Marketing, Agata!&#8217;<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your reader will not only see the <a href=\"https:\/\/woodpecker.co\/blog\/what-subject-line-will-make-my-addresses-open-my-cold-email\/\">subject line<\/a> of your email, but also the first few words of your email copy. These first few words are your chance to engage them and make them curious enough to know more. A pretty big deal, if you ask me!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the cold email Agata got, the first line of the text shows research and relevant personalization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also adds a very pleasant tone at the beginning of the message. Cause, you know, who wouldn\u2019t like to be congratulated on a new role? This probably brightened up Agata\u2019s day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So don\u2019t talk about yourself in this part. They\u2019ll feel like they\u2019ve been hand-picked, rather than chosen at random, so they\u2019ll probably be more willing to take the time to look at your proposal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But remember that you&#8217;re not trying to close the deal with the first email, so don&#8217;t be pushy. It also boosts the chances that your prospect will be familiar with at least one of the firms you mention. That\u2019s why you should always aim to list a couple &#8211; 3 seems to be the optimal number.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You might mention the most popular companies you&#8217;ve worked for (obviously!), but a clever tip here would be to mention companies that are from the same country as your prospect. E.g. if your prospect is from the UK, pointing to UK businesses \u2013 instead of, let\u2019s say, ones in India or France \u2013 might be more powerful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But that\u2019s not all \u2013 after listing the company names, the sender presents the numerical benefit which these firms get from sponsoring their daily events. Including a figure immediately gives the prospect a rough reference point of what they could expect, money-wise, from a potential collaboration. It helps the prospect decide whether to progress with the offer or not &#8211; faster.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;If you\u2019re not opposed to chatting, I think we could have a pretty good conversation.&#8217;<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CTA used in this cold email example is pretty unusual. Typically, you\u2019d write \u201cIf you\u2019d like to talk about it, I think\u2026\u201d. This again, shows that the sender did their homework.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generally, the more specifically your email is tailored to your prospect, the more likely that they\u2019ll reply. Why? Cause they\u2019ll feel you have personally written this email to them, rather than to 100s other prospects. Moral of the story? The prospect identifies both the benefit: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cyou\u2019ll know how much they are paying right now\u201d,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and addresses the common \u201cso what?\u201d (which\u2019ll probably immediately appear in the prospect\u2019s mind), by explaining exactly why this matters: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cyou can give them a better offer\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sender also went for the short and sweet technique here, which we\u2019re definitely a big fan of. They highlighted 2 clear ways in which Woodpecker can benefit, instead of composing a never-ending list of half-decent and generic benefits, which could be applied to most businesses. So keep that in mind when crafting your email copy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, do remember that by keeping your message short, relevant and straight to the point you\u2019ll increase the chance of getting a reply.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;Open to learning more?&#8217;<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CTA used in this cold email example is very casual and non-committing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many cold emails throw in a CTA along the lines of \u2018Let me know when you would be available for a 30 minute call\u2019, and we believe it&#8217;s a big no-no. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why? Tell me this: would you take 30 minutes out of your busy calendar for a stranger? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People, especially in the first point of contact, don\u2019t like to commit to something so large.
